Mitzi was another I had never met in person until the day a bunch of people met on the outskirts of Port of Spain for a good old-fashioned lime and “ole talk” the day after I arrived in Trinidad. She and I had had discussions on Twitter about how annoyed she gets at Trinidadians who do little but find fault with Trinidad after living abroad. ”To them, everything is better elsewhere, and that just pisses me off.” I’m paraphrasing, but I think that was the gist of her opinion. I think I convinced her that I wasn’t one of “those” Trinidadians - although I have no problem picking out the foibles and faults of my home country. (Or my adopted country - which is what I think may have redeemed me!) I contemplated an image of her not smiling, but chose this one, because she strikes me as someone who is, actually, always smiling.
