I had one of the best conversations I’ve had in a long time with Anna the day I shot this image. She’s known as girl-non-grata on Tumblr, and she e-mailed me out of the blue to ask if I wanted to meet for coffee and to discuss photography. We ended up talking about children, her background, her marriage, photography, my daughters, Utah, her dog, her week (in which she had gone out to a PRIDE event every night), today’s brand of feminism, and gender issues. She indulged my ignorance, and educated me on what the term “queer” actually means (I asked). AND I heard the term “hetero-romantic pansexual” used in a sentence. It was time very, very well spent.
