I’ve heard Heather mentioned often by Paul and Lena (#8 & #375) often, so I was looking forward to meeting her. She and her wife Adrienne (#422) graciously opened up their home and backyard to some 140-odd people the day this was shot, to host a gathering to commemorate the one year anniversary of Lena’s accident. She and I had a great conversation as soon as I walked in to her yard. I didn’t know anyone else there (Paul & Lena were late to their own celebration), and she put me at ease from the get-go. We talked about Paul and Lena’s idiosyncrasies, her background in Cleveland, how she won’t live in Texas (“Austin notwithstanding, I don’t get the impression they’re too welcoming of my people down there”), and how she’s quite happy to wave goodbye to her wife as she goes off to ride 70 miles.
